Overcoming Overwhelm as a Chiropractor: 6 Proven Strategies to Prevent Burnout

chiropractic success professional development Aug 29, 2025

1. Lean Into Faith or a Bigger Purpose

For me, faith is a cornerstone. It grounds me, reminds me there’s something bigger than myself, and reassures me that I’m supported even when life feels chaotic. Whether your anchor is faith, mission, or a greater purpose, hold onto it. It’s the foundation that helps you push through overwhelm.

2. Master Daily Planning & Time Blocking

One of the greatest tools for beating overwhelm is structure. I use Brendon Burchard’s High Performance Planner, but any planner works if you work it.

Here’s my process:

  • Each evening, I plan the next day in detail.

  • I time-block every task, from waking up at 6 AM to my last meeting.

  • I set boundaries to protect those blocks (no squeezing in last-minute appointments that bleed into coaching calls, for example).

This discipline ensures productivity without chaos. Remember: time blocking isn’t just about efficiency. it’s about protecting your energy and priorities.

3. Take Mental Breaks Between Tasks

Even two minutes of intentional breathing or quiet can reset your mind. I often pause at 11:58 before a noon coaching call, just long enough to clear my energy so I don’t carry stress from the last patient into the next conversation.

Little pauses = sharper focus + better creativity.

4. Schedule Catch-Up Time

Loose ends = mental clutter. And clutter breeds overwhelm.

At the end of each day, I schedule a short “catch-up” session to close out lingering tasks. On Fridays, I take it a step further with what Brendon calls a Friday Finisher, wrapping up the week so I can enjoy the weekend fully present with family, free of stress.

5. Build Resilience (a.k.a. The Rocky Balboa Mindset 🥊)

As a business owner, you will get knocked down, often daily. What matters is how quickly you get back up.

Resilience means:

  • Embracing discomfort as an opportunity to grow.

  • Choosing your emotional state rather than letting circumstances dictate it.

  • Maintaining inner strength, grace, and fortitude no matter what comes your way.

As one of my team members says: “Embrace the suck.” Yep. Lean into it. Because resilience isn’t avoiding challenges. it’s learning to rise stronger every single time.

6. Embrace a Positive Attitude with Affirmations

Your attitude is your compass. And one of the most powerful ways to keep it pointed in the right direction is with daily affirmations.

In our Revivify Program, I teach chiropractors and students how to use affirmations as part of a daily ritual. In fact, I even put sticky notes with affirmations all over my kids’ bathroom mirror. Six months later. They’re still there, and my boys repeat them every day.

Why? Because affirmations train your mind to focus on what you can do, rather than what’s holding you back. And positivity fuels resilience.

Overwhelm is normal. Burnout doesn’t have to be.

By leaning on purpose, planning intentionally, taking breaks, catching up, building resilience, and practicing positivity. You’ll not only keep overwhelm in check, you’ll thrive as both doctor and entrepreneur.

And remember: if building a practice were easy, everyone would do it. But you? You’ve chosen the path of impact, growth, and transformation. That’s what makes you different. That’s what makes you powerful.

So go out there, serve your people, and thrive.
