Will your Future self Thank you or Hate you?

abundance mindset chiropractic success professional development Jun 02, 2025

Let’s be honest, Chaos and uncertainty can make you want to hit pause. It’s easy to think, “I’ll get focused again when things calm down.” But here’s the truth: in those moments of hesitation, we’re not just delaying action. We're risking our own growth, reputation, and self-respect.

Think about your future self for a second. The version of you five or ten years from now. Will that version be proud of how you showed up today? Did you keep your promises, grow through challenges, and stay disciplined even when it was hard?

Most people chase things like success, money, popularity and that’s fine. But all of that is just the wrapping paper. What really matters underneath is your character. who you become while you’re building your life and business.

So here’s the question: are your daily actions building someone you’d be proud to become?

When You Pause, You Risk Your Promises

We all hit moments of stress, whether it’s in your practice, your home, or your health. And when that happens, the natural instinct is to slow down or disconnect. But if you’ve made promises to your team, your family, or your patients, then pulling back too long can lead to disappointment not just for them, but for you.

Self-respect doesn’t come from convenience, it comes from consistency. Even in chaos.

So ask yourself:
“What can I do today that will make me respect myself more tomorrow?”

That’s what keeps us moving forward.

It's Not Fear Holding You Back, It’s Burnout and Comfort

We’ve worked with hundreds of high performers, and when we ask why people aren’t taking action on their goals, fear is not the top reason. It’s actually two things:

  1. Burnout – You’re tired, not just physically, but emotionally. Often that comes from spending energy on things you don’t care about, for people or in roles you don’t connect with.

  2. Comfort – Things are “fine.” Life isn’t perfect, but it’s not bad either. So the question becomes, “Why take the risk?”

But that mindset can quietly kill your momentum.

Whenever you find yourself thinking, “Why even try?” flip the script. Say, “You’re right. Why build anything?”

That moment of sarcasm snaps your brain out of the fog and helps you realize—of course you care. You just got stuck.

Use the VVS Method to Refocus

Here’s a simple way to get back on track. It’s called VVS:

1. Visualization

Take a few quiet moments to picture your future. Not just the things you want but how you act, how you treat others, how you show up. Great leaders, athletes, and entrepreneurs do this constantly. They see it before they live it.

2. Voice

What are you saying to yourself today?
If you’re thinking, “This is going to be a disaster,” guess what? You’re setting yourself up for that.
Instead, start using your internal voice like a coach or a mentor from your future self:
“I’ve got this. I can handle this. I’m learning. I’m growing.”

3. Symbol

What represents success to you right now? Is it providing for your family? Owning a specific practice? Creating a difference to your patients? Having purpose is powerful but symbols make it concrete.
You need something to aim at that makes your effort feel meaningful.

Four Areas to Regain Clarity

When you're feeling lost or unmotivated, ask yourself how you're showing up in these four areas:

  1. Self – How do I feel about myself today? Am I taking care of me?

  2. Social – How are my relationships? Who do I need to show up for?

  3. Skill – What am I learning or getting better at today?

  4. Service – Who am I helping? How am I making an impact?

Some days, your “self” tank might feel empty but helping a patient, thanking your team, or showing up well for your practice might refill it. You don’t have to be on fire in all four areas every day but checking in with them brings purpose back into your routine.

Success isn’t just about checking off a to-do list or waiting for motivation to strike. It’s about creating a daily rhythm that builds you into someone you're proud of becoming.

So if today feels heavy or uncertain, don’t freeze.

Visualize. Speak life into yourself. And find that one thing, big or small, that you can do today that your future self will thank you for.

Keep building.
The best version of you is counting on it.
